BenBeijer Would Like to Check-in
Who am I?
BenBeijer in a nutshell:
I have been programming in C (later C++) for almost 30 years (my first printf("Hello World\n"); was way back in 1979)
I started with creating software for controlling large manufacturing machines (controlling solenoids, hydraulic, pneumatics actuators doing all sorts of interesting stuff).
Later on i worked for large financial institutes programming large transactional systems. I currently work for the Dutch government building software to collect taxes.....
All those years i have been a great fan of free software and have been using Linux for years (
SuSE). During those years i have been using a lot of software to name a few: Cyrus mail server, Postfix, Apache etc. Always as a (admin)user never as a programmer.
Besides programming i assist in running a
doggy hotel my wife owns. So programming time is often limited.
What do I want?
write access to
SVN for the following branches:
Core
twikiplugins
What can I do?
I have some knowledge of Perl (and Pyhton, KSH/bash scripts) but i don't review myself as an expert! I can find my way around in HTML but not the HTTP protocol.
I completed formal training in information technology, so if need be, i can become an expert in anything if given enough time...
I know my way around in Subversion CSV Trac the GNU build system as it is part of my daily work.
At work i am responsible for the design and the implementation of the software we use. Documenting my designs, writing (user)manual comes naturally (i learned it the hard way)
I already signed up for helping the Dutch translation effort.
I can also help in the overall documenting of the Foswiki system in the English language and of course in Dutch.
I would like to help out with the plugins/extension as well as the core Perl code. Starting out with simple things learning the Foswiki internals and over time maybe i will become a Foswiki wizard
Why do I want to do it?
Being a lurker for i long time i decided that the tdo split was an excellent opportunity for me to give something back to the community i have to thank for so much fantastic software i use on a daily basis in my professional and private life.
Because i am running a TWiki(4.2.0) intranet site at the Belastingdienst (Dutch tax institution) i am allowed to work on Foswiki during work hours!
