Discussion page for the UX Project: Wireframes for New Release Skin
Good initiative. Defining the UX roadmap is definitely what is needed.
Normally a roadmap or vision does not start with wireframes however. It starts by defining users and user goals, and defining strengths and weaknesses. See for instance
Palm provides a case study in user experience strategy for a recent and compelling example.
At the same time, wireframes can function as illustration of the story, so why not? I would suggest to start with 1 or 2 wireframes, not the entire bunch - it will take too long and things needs discussion and change anyway.

true, it does not start with the wireframes but we have our personas from twiki.org which are focused on visiting our website but nevertheless show the type of users we have in the end. And I felt it would took too long if only one or two people with little time work on redefining our users again. Talking 'bout the strengths and weaknesses: I was hoping someone else would jump in but again,if you want to do it right this is a time consuming task.
Anyone willing to help on defining strengths and weaknesses?

I saw we are planning a new skin for 1.1. I was thinking I could help a little from the point of view of the technical implementation rather than the design. I'm guessing you two (Carlo and Arthur) are going to get involved with that work. Is anyone else taking an active part in this development? Do we already have a name for that new skin and a main entry point?
I did some some interesting work as part of
JQueryLibPlugin . Notably the color picker for
PatternSkin and the integration of the
jQuery theme roller. I'm quite impressed with that theme roller thing: you can actually customize colors and textures very easily. It would be great to have a skin flexible enough to be able to integrate with jQuery theme.
Right know I'm thinking of making CSS class names customizable through configure so that one could easily switch from one theme framework to another without having to rewrite the skin but rather only change the configuration.
Anyway I just wanted to say maybe I could help little with the new skin one way or another.

Yes, I started with it but had to stop because of my current work load. Will still try to finish my sketches so I can upload them for discussion.
I already had a chat with Eugen and Oliver about it as they've started devolping some useful features with regards to a new skin...
Bottom line: These are all more or less loose efforts.
Maybe we should coordinate this a little bit more and have an IRC meeting for it?
