/etc/network/interfaces in foswiki vm is read-only

I have downloaded and installed foswiki vm 1.1.5 (host ubuntu 12.10 desktop 64 bit with vmware-player 5.0.2 64 bit), but i get a blank ip. I have tried the solution suggested in Question 793, however my /etc/network/interface file is read-only and I cannot edit it via sudo vi. Root has read write and execute to this file.
