This question about Installation of Foswiki: More info required
Debian packages don't result in a working site: /foswiki not found on this server
Hi,
It´s enough to make me cry. I am trying to install foswiki for 3 days now and alwalys get an error
I try to install foswiki on Ubuntu (I also tried Xubuntu and some VMWare Images). Apache2 version is 2.4 and foswiki 1.1.9 (I think so)
I have a complete fresh new Ubuntu, then I add the fosiki sources and try to install foswiki via "apt-get update, apg-get install apache2 foswiki"
This installatins works without an error and I can restart and reload the apache2 withour errors.
But when I try to access the website via "http://localhost/foswiki" I always get the error: "The requested URL /foswiki was not found on this server"
Always the same... On 5 installations, alsways the same failure... What is missing?? In the installation guide its descripted that everything is configured by the deb installation.
Thank you very much!

I personally don't use the the deb packages for installing Foswiki but rather simply set up and configure my domain in the traditional way and then install a regular Foswiki distribution there. That being said, I do have a suspicion where you might look for the source of your error. You mention that you're using Apache 2.4 and some of the configuration requirements have changed. One in particular that may be the source of your problem is that apache config files must have the suffix ".conf" to be recognized. So look at
/etc/apache2/sites-available/000-foswiki
. You must rename any 000-foswiki and any other locally created configuration files to end in the .conf suffix for Apache to see them.
