Item12582: Clarify linking to subwebs and topics of same name.
Priority: Normal
Current State: Closed
Released In: 2.0.0
Target Release: major
Applies To: Engine
Component: Documentation
Branches: master
The docs in
TopicsAndWebs talks about sub-webs that have the same name as existing topics. It states here that you need a trailing '/' to disambiguate between the sub-web name and the topic. What it does not state is that this only works in [[]] links.
This also suggests that it should be made clear in the
ManagingWebs topic that
WikiWords are valid web-names but the above consequence follows. Also note that if you create a web as a
WikiWord then whether or not that subweb-name also exists as a topic, it is always better to refer to this sub-web with a trailing slash and in squabs.
Is it a bug that auto-linking cannot cope with the trailing '/' out of squabs?
On a related I thought I had seen documentation recommending or even mandating that web-names should
not be a
WikiWord, but merely a Word (i.e only initial CAPS and no camel-ing please). Was this ever the case? Has this restriction since been lifted? Or am I mistaken?

- Bug with autolinking with trailing slash? No. The only thing Foswiki will autolink is a topic. The trailing slash follows a web name, not a topic.
- Recommendation about not-a-wikiword? I seem to recall that as well. I've added it as a recommendation in ManagingWebs topic. But as the examples show wikiwords, it's not a particularly strong recommendation.
