That's correct, the caret is shorthand for "merge this cell with the one above it". That's been the case since the earliest days of TablePlugin.

Got it. Do you think this could be improved so that cells on lines having a caret can be edited with EditRowPlugin ? If not then I'll remove most carets since having EditRowPlugin working in all cells is by far more interesting then having cell spans !

I'm sure it could be improved.

I changed the headline from "row not editable when using a caret" and changed the status to "Enhancement". Anyone can have a crack at this; if it has to wait for me, then I probably won't get to it this year.
