Item13915: 'Just me' preference setting is misleading as implemented (disproved)
Priority: Low
Current State: No Action Required
Released In: n/a
Target Release:
A user contacted me reporting that he could no longer edit his user topic and was wondering what had happened. Investigating, I determined that he had selected the "Just me" edit preference setting in
NatEdit's GUI for setting preferences. Later, a member of AdminGroup edited this topic which resulted in ALLOWTOPICCHANGE being revised to the AdminGroup user.
I see that the reason for this is that the "Just me" option actually sets a Local PERMSET_CHANGE setting to "justauthor" which apparently resets ALLOWTOPICCHANGE to whoever is the most recent author. I understand that this should work under normal circumstances but creates un-expected results when an
AdminGroup member edits the topic.
There well may be other reasons for why this is set up this way, however my client requested I raise the question if perhaps the "Just me" setting should instead actually set ALLOWTOPICCHANGE to the WikiName of the current author, thereby avoiding this kind of situation.

Further testing showed this is not an issue. When Admin User edits the topic, the ALLOWTOPICCHANGE & PERMSET_CHANGE get set to the original author, as one would expect. Closing task as no action needed.
