Item8305: Upgrade to latest JHotDraw
Priority: Normal
Current State: Needs Developer
Released In: n/a
Target Release:
JHotDraw now has it's own sourceforge project, which has release a 1.6.0. We should split out the foswiki-specific code (I did most of this already) and merge with their version, when it is released (currently a beta). The intention is to reduce the future maintenance burden, plus leveraging their improvements.

Well, as of 7.3.1 it looks like
JHotDraw is far from beta stadium.
The demo works smooth and failure free.
Lets start integrating it to foswiki.

Please note that
JHotDraw 7 is still in alpha stadium.
Even though 7.3.1 works reasonably well now, I have not stabilized the API yet. This is because I have not yet implemented major features which require enhancements in the framework. Specifically I mean features like editing of color gradients, support for styled text, clip art, data interchange with Open Office Drawings ODG and the like.
If you do Foswiki-specific changes and enhancements please pass them on to the
AnyWikiDraw project from time to time (either by committing code into that repository, or by notifying me by e-mail, when you reached a milestone). Whenever I do incompatible changes in
JHotDraw 7, I update the
AnyWikiDraw code, so that it stays in synch with the API.

This is interesting to me. I would like to see an update soon, but I realise some existing installations using this plugin will need continued support of the version in our current release.
So I would like to see if we could make a preference variable to select the desired version.
