Item9656: MathModePlugin is missing dependency "latex" (among others)
Priority: Normal
Current State: Closed
Released In: n/a
Target Release: n/a
When I installed
MathModePlugin, I didn't get any complaints about missing dependencies, but when I visited the
MathModePlugin topic after install and enable, the latex wasn't rendering, and there was an error at the bottom of the screen:
ERROR: can't find latex at /usr/bin/latex
A quick search for "ubuntu latex" revealed that I needed to intall texlive, which I did. Refreshing the page then resulted in:
ERROR: can't find dvipng at /usr/bin/dvipng
Another quick search in the package manager and an install and the plugin worked properly.
There is also a listed dependency on
ImageMagick, which in my case seems to have already been installed.
Thankfully, the error messages are quite good, so it was easy to figure out what to do - and also, these dependencies are listed in the topic text, but it would certainly be better to include them in the DEPENDENCIES file for the plugin and get warned on plugin install.
There are a number of similar tasks already open about this including
Item2085 and
Item1620.
