The word missing is more intuitive and less geeky than undefined.

Discussion

Just a small attempt to reduce the geek factor. If missing was added as a synonym for undefined to query, then power users with no programming background would grok 'missing' almost instantly, whereas undefined needs more explanation.

If this is agreed to in principle. There is the further question of updating the relevant docs to either add missing or make it the default reference in the text (with undefined as a footnote, saying it's an alias to missing).
