Allowing the comments of others to be edited?

If I understand correctly, the section "An allowed way of 'censorship'" is trying to outline cases where overly negative comments could be edited to remove the negativism without removing any opinions. While there is something to be said for nurturing a desired tone in a discussion forum, as discussed in http://meyerweb.com/eric/thoughts/2004/11/11/mailing-list-community-care/, and is done in many online bulletin boards, I believe this requires an entrusted moderator to work well. Because some level of judgment is required, it is better if this function is not left up to the community at large. -- IsaacLin - 16 Nov 2008 - 18:55

Being constructive when interacting with other projects

I understand there is a history with the precursor project. However, particularly since Foswiki is successfully exercising Freedom 0, there is something unseemly about engaging in recriminations with other projects. When many Foswiki community members appear to gang up on any single person, it makes a bad impression. Also bear in mind that most users have not read the previous release meeting minutes and IRC logs, or any other record of disagreements, and so have no context in which to place any discussion. I urge everyone to not dwell over the details of what did or did not occur in the past. I fully appreciate that each developer is free to decide how they wish to approach their individual interactions with other projects. As a project, however, I believe the most beneficial approach for Foswiki is for it to remain above the fray and not express personal opinions about the motivations and direction of other projects. A consequence of Freedom 0 is that any GPL project is free to follow any direction it likes, as long as it continues to respect the licenses of any products it is deriving from, and so I believe Foswiki, as a fellow GPL project, should respect this. -- IsaacLin - 20 Nov 2008 - 15:24
